the lgbt community is very, very afraid of discussions about misogyny, which i think is partially due to r/dical feminism and the fear of coming across as “terfy”. the thing is, if we can’t have productive discussions about misogyny, we can’t effectively talk about things like transmisogyny (the intersection between transphobia and misogyny) and lesbiphobia (the intersection between homophobia and misogyny). if you don’t have a proper understanding of misogyny and how it manifests within the community as well as outside of it, you will never understand either of those topics, and you will never be a good ally to either group.
#at its heart all queerphobia IS misogyny #it comes back to a fundamental belief that there are two genders and one is lesser #when ‘woman’ is lesser then anything associated with ‘woman’ is lesser #WHICH WOULD MAKE IT SEEM LIKE anything associated with ‘man’ is greater BUT #ONLY WHEN ‘MAN’ DOES IT #woman does woman thing = lesser #man does man thing = greater #‘woman’ does ‘man’ thing = threatening #’man’ does ‘woman’ thing = threatening #queer people threaten the status quo of misogyny because we approach gender differently #and yes that includes cis queer people because it comes down to not doing ‘man’ or ‘woman’ right #ANYWAY that’s my two cents on it. #misogyny is fundamental to queerphobia and intersects in a million ways - @sillyjimjam
